Welcome to Alice Sweet Alice (ASA), a Kansas City alt rock hybrid, whose tasty tunes, stylistic diversity and passionate live show are paying dividends with a hard-to-ignore street buzz.

Alice Sweet Alice plays genre-bending music that resists description, classification or categorization – yet sounds intimately familiar.  There are definite rock overtones sometimes paired with electronica, jazz, blues and post punk that ignite the senses with progressive composition and meaningful lyrics.

ASA has shared the stage with such notable acts as Icon For Hire, Collective Soul, Adrenaline Mob, Chuck Mosley (Faith No More), Blameshift, Mushroomhead, Hurt, Taproot, Psychostick, Nothing More, Shaman’s Harvest, Pezband, Primer 55, Another Lost Year, and many others.

FOR FANS OF:  A Perfect Circle, Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies, Warpaint, Primus, Massive Attack, Portishead, Garbage, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Morphine, Florence & The Machine, Icon For Hire, NIN, Pink Floyd

Liza Jean's desire to be on stage started at a young age after first hearing mainstream pop on the radio in the late 90s. While the genre's changed over the years, the desire didn't. She has been singing since she was a child, and took up various instruments throughout her life including piano, flute, and saxophone. She sings in an alto-mezzo range. Her influences as a musician include bands like Icon for Hire, Amaranthe, The Pretty Reckless, and Halestorm.

She joined Alice Sweet Alice officially in May 2017, and is incredibly excited to be working with such an amazing and talented group of people.

Scott Martinez

Bass - Guitar - Vocals

Scott discovered music in the woods of Maine at a very young age. Sitting around a campfire with his Grandfather, someone pulled out a guitar and started singing. Drawn in through the eyes of a child, Scott was amazed at how something so simple could be so powerful. Growing up in the San Francisco bay area, Scott took guitar lessons for a very brief time, and then started his musical career as a skate punk - playing in punk bands on borrowed equipment in the San Jose area. A bit of musical success came in 1989, when his band Autumn Cathedral (AC) released their debut album "Asleep Within Waves" on Vinyl, CD and Cassette. AC made it into Michael Levine's book "THE ADDRESS BOOK", 7th Edition, released in 1995. AC disbanded due to blacklisting of their record label in 1991, Scott was disillusioned and brokenhearted and moved on to other things, before coming back to music in 2007 — with Alice Sweet Alice's first recordings. During the time gone from music, Scott struggled with depression and alcohol - but overcame both when music came back into his life. To Scott, music is a deeply personal and intense experience, and something that was greatly missed.

Piano - Vocals - Violin

Theo got his start at about age 3, when he started teaching himself to play piano, and has been composing and improvising music for as long as he can remember. At the age of 7, he started learning violin, and along with piano, he's been playing ever since. Throughout high school and college, he was very active in choral music, singing with the top choirs in each, and was the sole recipient of the Shawnee Mission North Choral Music Scholarship for the class of 2006. He has appeared in university opera productions such as Suor Angelica, Hänsel und Gretel, and Dido and Aeneas. He now holds a B.M. in Music Composition from UMKC, where he studied with composers such as Chen Yi, Zhou Long, and Paul Rudy.

Theo is actively involved in both the classical and non-classical worlds as a singer, pianist, violinist, and violist. He has played The Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS as well as the Riot Room and the Uptown Arts Bar in Kansas City, opening for bands such as Angelspit and Math the Band. In addition to making electronic music, he plays piano at Spirit of Hope MCC in Westport, and he is a member of Schola Cantorum at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, as well as the KC-based bands Alice Sweet Alice and Modern Day Fitzgerald. When not making music actively, Theo enjoys painting, drawing, crocheting, studying foreign languages, and making jewelry.

All in all, Theo lives for his greatest passion - creating art of all kinds - and he doesn't see that stopping anytime soon.
